Does Cold Water Therapy and Ice Water Facials Help Improve Skin? (Part 2)

If you guys have followed me since the beginning of time, you would have heard me mention numerous times about the “100 times face splash with cool water”.  This became super popular on TikTok recently.  I learned this method in my face yoga teacher certification course and I do this every morning.  You simply start with water that’s slightly cooler than your body temperature. You can then eventually build up to 80 splashes with cool water, followed by 20 splashes of ice water.  In order to do my part in saving this planet,  I conserve water by filling a bowl of cool water and dunk my head in it.  You may choose to hold your breath and keep your head in the bowl of water for 20-30 seconds, or you can dip in and out of the bowl of water 100 times.  Choose whichever technique and water temperature that will work best for you and your skin.

You will see many similar health benefits that you’ll get from the cold water therapy I talked about in my previous blog  (read Part 1 if you haven’t already) and also the following ones:

✅ Improve Your Skin Tone and Complexion

Cold water improves blood circulation which can lead to a brighter, healthier, more even skin tone and complexion.   Cold water tightens the appearance of your skin, so it looks more renewed and refreshed.  By splashing cold water to your face, your skin increases its absorption capacity which allows your choice of skincare products to better penetrate and improve absorption into your skin.

✅ Reduce Eye Puffiness and Under-Eye Circles

By temporarily restricting blood flow when dipping your face into cold water, it can effectively reduce under-eye bags and diminish the appearance of puffiness. After sometime the capillaries open up again, which will give your face a more refreshed and rosy complexion.

✅ Tighten Your Pores and Reduce Acne, Pimples, and Blackheads

The cold temperature causes the pores to shrink, giving your skin a smoother appearance.  Smaller pores will make it harder for dirt, oil, and debris to get inside. By maintaining clean and tight pores, you can minimize the likelihood of clogged pores and the subsequent formation of blackheads and acne. Washing your face with cold water daily will help get rid of impurities such as dirt, debris, and bacteria which leads to less inflammation and acne.

✅ Improve Dry skin

Hot water can strip away your skin’s natural sebum. It triggers your skin to produce even more oil to balance the sebum level, which leads to breakouts in your skin.  Unlike hot water, cold water on the other hand doesn’t wash away your skin’s natural oils and helps your skin maintain its hydration level.  It can also stimulate skin’s collagen production, which in turn slows down the aging process and gives you a younger complexion.

Does cold water therapy and ice water facials help improve skin?

In my opinion, they do, that’s why I have been very persistent in maintaining my  “100 times face splash with cool water” morning routine and my “30 seconds cold water therapy” shower routine.
